Teaching Dossier

I have been a research lead and co-investigator in projects about virtual learning, creating technology-enhanced active learning tools, building communities of practice in scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), effective professional development in higher education, and building efficiency in university teaching. My research goals include solidifying understanding of context specific factors that enhance learning, and challenges that might hinder student success.  I have published research studies in  innovative teaching such as interdisciplinary first-year experiences, online teaching materials and blended learning projects. My research studies with post-secondary students indicate that factors that lead to enhanced learning and student participation are belongingness to a community, combination of learning in-person and online, opportunities for peer conversations and formative feedback along with supportive instructor presence. Also, I have led innovative projects, such as the Massive Open Online Courses development from start to finish at the UofA, courses that now have over a million learners worldwide.
