Day 7: Rest day

Hi! Louisa Bradtmiller here - I'm a faculty member in Environmental Studies at Macalester. We arrived early Thursday morning and set out to explore the city since the conference had a rest day. We checked out some of the beach areas in Dubai, and then went to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. To say that these were contrasting cultural experiences is an understatement! Tomorrow we'll hit the meeting for Week 2. Stay tuned for student posts ahead!

We spent a few hours walking around the touristy Jumeira Beach area in Dubai, happy to be taking a break from Minnesota winter (mild as it has been). 

A few shots from the mosque - we were blown away by the architecture, and arrived in the late afternoon to catch the beautiful light.
