Hi! My name is Ruby Zhang, and I’m a junior at Marin Academy. STEM is one of my biggest passions; I especially love science because it puts the calculated side of math in the context of the real world. The MARC program has allowed me to draw from these passions to pursue a real research project, and I’m so excited to contribute to the world’s scientific knowledge through my field of interest!
I entered MARC interested in the field of seismology, because for as long as I can remember, seismic natural disasters have been one of my greatest fears. I originally wanted to study disaster prediction, but it didn’t take me long to figure out that it is actually impossible to predict seismic events. I ultimately landed on early warning, as forecasting these disasters is as close to prediction as it gets.
Besides STEM, my other biggest passion is art. At school I take DrawPaint and am part of the Yearbook committee. Outside of school I have an independent nail business, where I do nail art for my friends and family, and I work at a craft store.
Currently, I am on a synchronized ice skating team; I joined the team a few years ago but have been skating for about 10 years. This year, I discovered I enjoy tutoring, having joined Crossroads and peer tutoring at MA. In my free time I love doing any sort of crafting, driving with my friends, and trying viral Asian food recipes.
