The KCKPS Student Intervention Team (SIT) Process aims to provide students with the support needed to be on track, on time, and college and career ready.
The SIT process provides teachers with a variety of tools and strategies to support students who are not making developmentally appropriate gains academically, socially and emotionally, and/or behaviorally as part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The Student Intervention Team (SIT) is a general education problem-solving committee made up of a variety of school personnel. The purpose of the SIT is to support the implementation of Tier II and Tier III behavior and academic interventions for students so they may be successful in the general education setting.
Please see the KCKPS SIT Process Packet below.
Revised KCKPS SIT Process
Main Changes to the REVISED KCKPS SIT Process (March 31, 2023)
KCKPS department leaders collaborated to make necessary revisions to the KCKPS Student Intervention Team (SIT) Process to ensure clarity and efficiency. The following highlight some of the major changes:
Title page was updated and a link to SIT FAQs has been added to the page
“Levels” of the process were changed to “Steps” to not confuse staff with tiered levels of support
Shifted from four (4) steps to three (3) steps in the process
Step 1 is all done before a formal meeting is requested with the SIT and is done as part of the PLC problem-solving process within the MTSS framework (Tier 1-3). When students stall with Tier 3 interventions in Step 1, the teacher can complete the necessary action items to request a formal SIT meeting in Step 2.
A guidance document has been developed and linked to support SIT requests for students attending the Greenbush Virtual Academy (GVA)
The ESOL Addendum has been revised and linked at the top of the process. Reminder: Parents/guardians will need to be contacted as part of the ESOL Addendum work.
Language regarding attendance has been added to Step 1 to address student attendance issues as part of the process.
Vision and hearing testing have been added to Step 1 to ensure hearing and vision issues are addressed.
Parts of the Infinite Campus PLP should be completed before meeting with the PLC and other components will be completed with the PLC.
A note about completing all necessary tasks in Step1 before making a formal request to meet with the school SIT has been added as a reminder.
Notes about repeating Steps 2 & 3 if necessary have been added.
In the Accommodations vs. Modifications vs. Interventions section, the intervention examples in the table have been updated, and a new section for a general listing of all KCKPS Tiered Supports (Tiers 1-3) has been added.
SIT FAQs were added at the end of the document and will be updated as necessary.
Each year, building leaders identify a member(s) of their school team to be the building SIT Coordinator(s). The above spreadsheet shows the designated number and names of Building SIT Coordinators we currently have on file for each school. Per the negotiated agreement, SIT Coordinators will receive $495 per semester for their extra duties. If a school is splitting SIT Coordinator responsibilities between multiple staff (above the number of coordinators allotted for a building), the stipend amount will need to be split. Buildings also have the ability to use their building budgets to use extra duty to pay for an additional coordinator. However, extra duty timesheets will need to go through the building principal, not the district.
As you are identifying a SIT Coordinator, please use the following criteria as you make your determination:
Building SIT Coordinators should have...
Basic understanding of the SIT process and ability to help lead others through the process in your building (SIT Process training should happen during PD or in PLCs)
Credibility with all staff as an instructional leader with knowledge of evidenced-based instructional strategies
Knowledge about the principles of Trauma Sensitive and Resilient Schools and the ability to apply those when working with children and adults
Ability to use and coach others on how to use Infinite Campus (IC)
Schedule that allows for attendance at monthly scheduled SIT Coordinator meetings (typically the last Thursday of the month depending on district calendar)
Reminder to Principals about the SIT Coordinator position:
SIT Coordinators should not be the owners of the SIT process in your buildings. Principals are expected to hold all staff accountable for understanding and implementing the SIT process correctly.
SIT Coordinators should not be entering every SIT plan/SIT meeting information into Infinite Campus (IC). Staff bringing students up for SIT should be the individuals responsible for adding SIT plans and data into IC.
