The goal of the 2022-2023 MTSS Trauma Sensitive Social Emotional Learning (TS-SEL) trainings is to build capacity in school leaders and their Trauma Sensitive and Resilient Schools teams to help lead the TS-SEL work at each school. This year, KCKPS will create a system-wide framework that establishes consistent trauma sensitive behavioral and social-emotional supports that wrap around the whole child. This Framework will empower all schools and all students to address inequities to co-create thriving schools, requiring a focus on SEL: the mindsets, skills, attitudes, and feelings that help students succeed in school, career, and life. The Framework will equip staff members with the training and tools necessary to be trauma-informed and prevention-focused in their interactions with all members of our school communities. After each training, your selected TSRS team members, along with you as the building leaders, will take this information back to the rest of your staff (see Communication Flowchart and Self-Correcting Feedback Loop).
Things to consider when determining participants for your TSRS teams for the TS-SEL MTSS Trainings:
Staff at your building who...
Are part of your TSRS team
Have an understanding of behavior and/or social emotional learning (counselors, social workers, dean of students, Restorative Practice facilitators, may include 1-2 teachers, etc.)
Can be a decision maker (if not the Principal, consider an Assistant Principal or someone you trust to make decisions for TS-SEL for your building in your absence)
Would make good trainers for staff at your building
Will continually train staff and provide instruction for new staff
Will ensure that decisions made in the workgroup are implemented at the building level
