How do I enrol my child for BYOD?
A BYOD agreement must be signed by student and parents/whānau prior to a device arriving at school. Please see your child's teacher or the office for a copy of the BYOD agreement. Read the agreement and discuss it with your child before signing and then return it to school. Your child's device will then be set up on the school network.
The agreement outlines the responsibilities of students and parent/whānau and the school as below:
As a student I agree to:
- ensure my device is at school every day so I can use it for my learning
- make sure my device is fully charged
- care for and take responsibility for my device and any damages to it. My device is for my use only.
- use kind words and images online in a way that supports learning
- store my device in the locked area in my learning space during break times
- use only learning apps and websites. Personal apps including games are for home use only.
- My teacher decides how and when my device is used at school, including restricting access if I break this agreement.
As a parent/caregiver I/We agree to:
- Ensure my child meets and understands their BYOD responsibilities.
- Reinforce classroom learning of digital citizenship by discussing responsible and appropriate use of the internet.
- Arrange for any damages to my child’s device to be repaired or replaced at my child’s/my cost, eg. cracked screens.
- Discuss with my child how they are using their device to assist their learning, view the current learning and provide oral and digital feedback where possible.
- Ensure device is named clearly.
As Lyttelton Primary School I/We agree to:
- Provide reliable wireless access to our school network and the internet.
- Provide approved website filtering protection.
- Provide a lockable space for students to store their devices during break times.
- Provide education to students on matters related to digital citizenship.
- Plan for and implement digital learning activities where the student’s device can be utilised to enhance their learning.
- Notify parent/caregiver of any issues arising where the student struggles to meet their BYOD responsibilities.
