More Ideas for Making Art at Home
A Few Ideas for Things to Make with Basic Drawing Supplies:
1.) Scribble a line on your paper in black pencil, marker or crayon. 2.) Look at all the shapes that were created by the overlapping and intersecting lines. 3.) Color (with pencils, crayon, marker, paint, whatever you have) in the various abstract shapes with as many colors as possible without letting the same color touch.
Window art - Sometimes art can be as close as your own backyard. Look out the window and draw what you see. Landscapes are some of the world's most popular works of art.
Selfies - Take a pose. Draw a realistic, cartoon or abstract portrait of another family member or yourself. This is a fun way to share with others.
Flash cards - make colorful cards with symbols and design your own card game, like Go Fish or Old Maid. 1.) Choose a theme like animals, sports theme, or everyday objects as the symbols, 2.) then create pairs of each symbol on the card stock. 3.) Create enough cards for the whole family to get involved in the designing. 4.) Decide the rules of the game. 5.) Have fun playing a game of cards.
Drawing and painting to music - pop, folk, classical, hip-hop, Disney, any kind that you enjoy! Think about the mood of the music - does it have a color?
Illustrations and Books -
Read together with your family; “What are the pictures telling you?”
Grown ups, picture books are a perfect way to see through your child’s eyes.
Try drawing your favorite character.
Outdoor Art-
Grab some chalk and make a masterpiece on the sidewalk!
Have a clipboard (or just a hardcover book works fine!) You can make art ¨en plein air¨. --That's French for "outside"!
Look up at the clouds. What do you see? Draw it! (Did you know there is a word for seeing objects in clouds? It's called "Pareidolia". More fancy words for you!
Find some rocks and paint or draw on. Use them as paper weights, or leave them outside as fun surprises for your neighbors to find.
