The cost of the El Camino de Santiago trip consists of two basic items:
The program cost (inclusive of lodging, some meals, all transportation while abroad (including the international airfare), and pilgrimage visa) is listed above. This is divided into a $500 deposit due when you sign up (which is refundable if the trip doesn't meet the minimum number of participants) and the remainder of the program fee due by October 31st. Once the deadline for registrations has passed, if there are enough participants for the trip to go, then the deposit becomes non-refundable.
The program cost covers most of your expenses abroad. Specifically:
✓ International flights
✓ Private motorcoach transfers from & to Madrid Airport, & accommodation with breakfast each day
✓ Services of a tour leader/manager, accompanying the group from arrival in Madrid Airport to departure from Madrid Airport.
✓ Daily luggage transfers between hotels/acommodations for 1 'carry-on' size bag+1 personal item size bag per person
✓ Three group dinners (first night, last night + 1 other night)
✓ Pilgrim's Passport for each traveler
✓ Information packet with maps, route notes, etc for each traveler
Miscellaneous Expenses The four principal miscellaneous expenses are (1) passport applications (if you do not have a valid passport), (2) visa, (3) spending money, (4) transportation to U.S. airport (if needed)
Passports Students lacking a valid passport should apply as soon as possible because processing can take months to complete. Instructions are available at the U.S. Department of State website. The cost for a new passport is $165.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) authorization
Spending money Everyone will need to bring some spending money to pay for meals uncovered by the program costs, any optional attractions, and souvenirs. How much depends on each person’s spending habits.
Transportation to the airport from University campus. This can be arranged for a group of students. The cost could be between $50 and $100-125 per person for roundtrip transportation. This depends on the size of the vehicle needed to transport the group.
This trip will involve physical activities, including walking and other physically engaging activities. You will be hiking/walking between 11 and 18 miles per day for five days in a row. Walking paths are sometimes uneven (brick/stone) and hilly. Steps are also often required.
If you have any physical or mobility issues that might hinder your participation, please notify the program leaders before you apply to the program.
Part of exploring a new culture is trying new and different foods. If you have any food allergies or restrictions, please note that on the application form. Some meals will be pre-planned.
