Dear Families, The LVUSD Board of Education approved an amendment to the service-learning policy. In an effort to reduce the stress on our high school students as we continue to navigate these challenging times, the total annual hours required for each graduating class are as follows:

• Class of 2021: 30 Hours

• Class of 2022: 15 Hours

• Class of 2023: 15 Hours

• Class of 2024: 30 Hours

• Class of 2025: 45 Hours

We know that many of our students still want to participate in Community Service and we encourage them to do so but know that it is not mandatory for this year

Our service-learning recognition programs will be revised to allow students to earn awards for outstanding service, without the added pressure of finding service opportunities during this time. In short, we want our students focused on their health, their families, and their studies for the 2021-2022 school year.

Service learning is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

Service Learning Hour Graduation Requirements have been reduced due to COVID19

The 15 hour requirement has been inputted into Galaxy digital for 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 due to COVID.

SENIORS who do not complete their hours will NOT receive their diploma or their final transcript. See below for due dates!

Service Learning is the modern version of “community service”. Service Learning allows students the opportunity to engage with the local and even global community. The Las Virgenes Unified School District believes giving back to and learn from the community is an important part of a child’s educational and emotional development.

Each student is required to do a minimum of 15 hours per year. If a student completes 50 to 100 hours or more each year, they are eligible for a several different certificates (see the certificates tab to learn more). Please note that the Service Learning hours a student completes beyond the required 15 cannot will no longer be displayed in Aeries. It will only be available in the new online program, Galaxy Digital.

Service Learning hours should be turned in at any time during the school year, however, all 15 hours must be completed by the following deadlines:

Seniors Final Due date: Friday, April 29th 2022

Juniors Final Due date: Friday, May 13th 2022

Sophomores Final Due date: Friday, May 27th 2022

Freshman Final Due date: Friday, June 3rd 2022
