Dear Parent(s),
In my class, we love to celebrate your child’s birthday. On the day of their special day, we sing to them and give them a birthday hat. Of course, birthday treats are welcome as well, but I do have a few rules when it comes to these.
I am a big advocate of health, fitness, and a proper diet. Unfortunately, donuts and the like do not fall into this category. Think about it. If every child in the class brought in that type of treat throughout the year, it would mean that your child was consuming something like that 35 different times throughout the year. Now, add that to the treats that they will likely consume at birthday parties outside of school, bake sales, etc., and that is a lot of junk food! Therefore, for birthdays, the 2nd grade team asks that if you would like to gift something to classmates, please make it a gift to the class that everyone can use.
Now, don’t worry. I will still allow treats on special days like our Holiday Party and End of the Year Party. Every once in a while, a little dessert can have its place in our diets, too!
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to creating healthier eating habits.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ross
