Math 7 Accelerated

I am pleased to welcome you to the 7th grade accelerated mathematics program at A.C. Stelle Middle School.

The accelerated program offers an exciting and extremely challenging curriculum. In order to maintain the integrity of this program, you must make a strong commitment to academic excellence and meet the grade requirements as dictated by the school policy.

Because of the level of difficulty of this class, there will be times when you will struggle with the material. I will happily help you with any and all of your mathematical concerns. In order to be successful, you must be willing to exert a maximum effort to meet these challenges.

I look forward to working with you.

Course Outline

Students will master the concepts and skills necessary to be proficient in 7th grade accelerated math to prepare them to be successful in Algebra Honors next year. Topics include, but are not limited to, problems involving the decimal system; rational numbers; equations and inequalities; geometry; ratio, proportion and percents; area and volume; the coordinate plane; square root and right triangles; probability; statistics; polynomials and more.

Text Books

  • To prepare students for the rigor required in Algebra Honors, we will be using the Dolciani book supplemented with Big Ideas.

  • Students will have access to a Dolciani book at home and in the class.

  • The Big Ideas curriculum will be available online for students to access extra material, quizzes and practice tests and more. Students will receive instructions, usernames and passwords to access this content when the need arises later in the school year.

Course Requirements

  • Students should maintain 80% or better on tests and quizzes at all times to continue in 7 accelerated.

  • All Homework must be done in pencil. Points may be taken off for assignments in pen.

  • Homework may be assigned 5 times a week. Students will correct their work in class the next day. ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED. There will be unannounced homework checks.

  • Quizzes will be administered randomly, sometimes unannounced. Tests will be given at the end of each unit with a review the day before. An absence the day before a test does not automatically imply an extension on the test.

  • Final Exams: December and June. Other Standardized tests will be administered as needed.

Class Rules

  • I expect you to be on time. When the bell rings, you need to be in your seat ready to start work.

  • I expect you to be prepared. Always come to class with enough paper, pencils, and pens.

  • I expect you to participate. Don’t just show up for class and go into quiet mode. Participate in group work, assignments and class discussions.

  • I expect you to be courteous. Respect yourself, your fellow students, your teachers and anyone else in the classroom

  • No food may be eaten in the class, nor drinks sipped but water is permitted. Chewing gum is prohibited

Attendance

It is your responsibility to secure class notes and missed material when you are absent. Excused Absence? Get a re-admit and all work is accepted. Unexcused Absence? Take a zero. Tardy? Get a pass, or take a zero on missed work. Vacation? Let me know 1-2 weeks in advance so I can give you an assignment packet.
