In order to make our Hug ‘n Go process run smoothly and to ensure the safety of our children, we are asking that you adhere to the following procedures:
Drop Off/Pick Up:
You may drop off and/or pick up your child at the front of the school.
The drop off or pick up zone begins as you round the corner at the front of the school building and ends just beyond the blue Handicap markings after the MPR stairs. Keep pulling forward in the drop off/pick up lane until your child is brought to your car at pick up or can be safely unloaded at drop off. Important: Please do not exit your car and remove your child from his/her car seat at any time prior to that point.
If you prefer to walk your child to class, legally park your car in the parking lot and be mindful to park in spots that are marked “Visitor.” Please do not park in spots designated for YB staff members, PFA parking spaces, or PFA purchased spaces.
We also ask that if you prefer to park and pick up your child at the gate during dismissal time that you wait for your child by the steps leading to the MPR. This allows us to have a clear path to walk all children to their parents.
Additionally, we ask that you email or leave a phone message rather than use dismissal time to ask teachers or para-educators about your child’s day. Conversations slow up the Hug ‘n Go process. Emails are the preferred way to contact your child’s teacher.
As you approach the school, the middle lane is the through-lane to be used for getting into the parking lot or making the loop. Please do not stop and take your child out of the car from this lane as that is extremely dangerous.
The use of your cell phone while you are waiting in the Drop Off/Pick Up lane is a distraction and again slows down the Hug ’n Go process.
Please remember that at peak pick-up times the line of cars may reach out onto Reyes Adobe, so please be patient. When exiting YB we ask that you drive slowly and carefully, especially when turning onto the bridge. The curve is tight and there is less chance for an accident if you drive slowly and are not talking on your cell phone.
Buttercup parents will be given a placard with their child’s name and teacher's name to be placed on the dashboard of your car. Please use this placard as this identifies you as a Buttercup parent and allows us to know that we need to have someone accompany your child when walking into class or during dismissal release time.
Finally, we will be staggering Buttercup dismissal times to help ease the congestion during dismissal time. It will be helpful if you do not get into the Hug ‘n Go line until your child’s stated dismissal time. Getting to school early during pick up time and sitting in the Hug ‘n Go line will slow down the process for all.
PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to park, please park in a visitor spot only. Our staff spots MUST remain open for staff ONLY. An empty spot simply means someone arrives at a staggered time, it does not indicate availability. If a visitor spot is not available, please plan on parking on Reyes Adobe and walking down.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation and help in making the Hug ‘n Go procedure move quickly and smoothly. We are looking forward to a great year.
Make sure to label your child's backpack, lunchbox, water bottle, jackets, and any other personal belongings.
Lunch box with snack and lunch (multiple choices of foods is a good place to start with this age). We allow the children to choose what they eat, how much, and in whatever order they want. We do encourage them to eat their growing food first. Yerba Buena is a "green" school and encourages recycling. Therefore, please send food in plastic containers rather than baggies. We are happy to heat up lunches if they bring in leftovers or food that needs to be warmed. Please send in reusable snack/lunch/drink containers that your child is able to open by themself. Please label all containers with your child's name.
Hot Lunch option:
Hot Lunch is available for Buttercup students to order daily, starting August 21st, the first day of school. Please email me at epemberton@lvusd.org by 8:00 am on the day your child would like to order hot lunch. Click the link to view the menu for each month.
We are a peanut and nut free campus.
Refillable water bottle
1 or 2 changes of clothing (pants, shirts, socks, underwear and socks) to be used in case of an accident. Please place them in a gallon sized ziploc bag with their name on the bag and label all clothes with child's name.
Diapers/wipes (if needed) or additional underwear
Please apply sunscreen on your child before school
Please apply sunscreen on your child before school if they are prone to burning.
Please have your child wear only closed-toed shoes (i.e. sneakers). This is for your child’s safety and ease in outdoor play activities, such as running and climbing.
Your child’s backpack will be given a tag that has their teacher name and classroom number. Please keep this tag attached to the backpack as it will act as an easy identifier for Buttercup staff who are working Hug‘n Go and walking children to the classroom.
We do art projects every day and children may get "messy" so please dress them appropriately.
Share day in our class will be every Friday starting in September. Your child may bring a toy or item from home to talk about and share.
Child needs to be fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or any pain reducing medication. (District policy)
If your child is vomiting or has diarrhea. If your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhea, they must be episode free for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child has green mucus coming from their nose or green goop in their eyes.
If your child is lethargic, too ill or too tired to participate with classroom activities throughout the school day.
Share Day
Share Day starts September 12th!
Share Day is every Friday. Please send a share item (must be able to fit in their backpack or a grocery bag that they can carry). This is a time when each child is able to share their item and tell their friends 1-2 things about it. Please help your child pick out an item to bring to class. Please help prepare your child by helping them think of 1-2 things to tell their friends about their item.
There will be a Share Basket outside of our classroom on Friday morning along with a sharpie and masking tape. We will label all share items. If you walk your child to class please write your child's name on a piece of masking tape and attach it to their share item and then place it in the Share Basket. You may also label your child's share at home. This is a big help in assisting us in getting everyone's Share items safely home.
