I have been practicing yoga for several years. Yoga has impacted my life in such a positive way that I want to share the experience with my students. I practice yoga with my students during class breaks and especially before tests and quizzes to calm their minds, alleviate pre-test stress, and reduce tension. Together we perform stretching and breathing techniques that aid in relaxation and promote blood flow to the brain. Yoga also aids students in their ability to focus their attention. I have found that my students like practicing yoga before tests and some students even practice these techniques in their other classes. It is my hope that rather than becoming frustrated and withdrawn when facing a challenging situation, students can rely on the mental strength they develop from yoga.
