It's an environment where we teach the skills necessary for the effective use of ideas and information, provide a rich variety of materials including technology to support the curriculum, and promote a love of reading.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Alice C. Stelle Library Media Center is to assist all students in becoming information literate, and in developing a love of reading for pleasure. Students will be taught and encouraged to develop strategies for becoming active and creative locators, evaluators, and users of information. The library media program exists to:

• help students foster a love of reading and appreciate the value of literature;

• help students develop skills needed to access information in a variety of print and non-print formats;

• provide resources and learning activities which support the curriculum;

• help special needs learners foster a love of reading and appreciate the value of literature by providing a large selection of lower reading level materials and offering technological assistance in the form of audio books;

• develop and maintain a diverse collection of fiction, non-fiction, and reference materials in various media;

• encourage and assist students, staff, and community members to become lifelong learners;

• provide technology and service to support the 1:1 laptop program.

The library media center works collaboratively with site and district leadership, other school sites, and the community to achieve and maintain this mission statement. LVUSD has developed a partnership with the City of Calabasas Library to provide digital resources which support our curriculum and our students.

Behavior guidelines:

The Library Media Center is a place for quiet study or reading, doing research or checking out books. It is expected that you will respect the rights of other students in the Library Media Center. Uncooperative students will lose their library privileges.

• Students are expected to be courteous and respectful at all times.

• Backpacks may be placed under the table or on the floor against a table leg with shoulder straps faced in.

• Please push in your chair before you leave.

• NO gum chewing, eating, or drinking (including water) is permitted.

• Computers must be used for school related work only.

• Cell phones should be off and in the backpack.

AC Stelle Library Book Circulation Information:

There are no late fines on library books in the Library Media Center. Books become overdue after 21 days which causes email overdue notices to be sent. Books may be renewed once, but needing more than 6 weeks to read a book will prompt a discussion before it can be renewed further. Renewals can be requested online (email acstellelibrary@lvusd.org) or done in person at the Library Media Center. Students may not check out new items if there are unpaid charges or overdue items on their record. All materials checked out under a student's name are their responsibility. 

Borrowing...

Library books:

• The current A.C. Stelle ID Card is required to check out materials. An ID is not needed to return or renew a book.

• Students may check out three books at a time for a period of three weeks (21 days).

• Books may be renewed only once - renewals can be done online by logging into Follett Destiny using the LVUSD Google username and ID number.

• Students may request that a hold be placed on a checked-out title. Visit the circulation desk and place your request. You will be emailed and notified through your Language Arts class and the material will be held for one week at the circulation desk.

• Overdue notices are emailed home frequently.

• Students may keep track of their library records by logging into the Follett Destiny circulation software using their LVUSD Google usernames and ID numbers.

Class novels:

• English Language Arts teachers may require students to read novels during the year. These books are checked out through the library.

• The books are due back when the teacher is finished with the unit.

Technology:

• Acer laptops are checked out through the library.

• Loaners are not issued if the laptop is left at home.

• Student is responsible for reporting problems with laptops to the library.

• Replacement machines will be provided when laptop needs service.

• Student is financially responsible for damage to laptop in accordance with the Student Device Agreement

Catalog:

• Each of the Library Media Center student workstations have access to the catalog to use in locating fiction, nonfiction, and reference materials in the collection.

• Students may search by Title, Subject or Author for information.

• The Follett Destiny Catalog is available online. Students can log in using their student LVUSD Google username and ID number to see their records, renew books, make reading lists, etc.

Laptop services:

The Library Media Center is the focus of the 1:1 Forward Learning student laptop program. Laptops are checked out and serviced through the Library Media Center. See the laptop page for more information.

Printing/copying:

• The LMC has a copy machine available for student use. Directions for usage are located on the machine.

• Printing is available, wasteful printing is not acceptable.

• Copy and paste what you need to print. If you don't know how, please ask.

• Students are responsible for citing their information sources properly.
