The turf on the La Vernia ISD football field was installed in 2010. GMAX is a measurement utilized to determine surface hardness on sports fields. A measurement of 200 or over on any place on the field is considered to not be suitable and may pose safety concerns. We do have one area of the field that measures at 206. It is recommended for a field to stay at or below 165. The field average is 170. Below you can find our latest assessment of the field by Paragon Sports Constructors.
“The average GMAX reading of 170 and the number of locations testing above the STC or ASTM recommended ranges indicates that the field's impact attenuation has decreased with time and use. Typically, Paragon Sports Constructors would recommend top-dressing the field with rubber infill followed by an additional deep groom to reduce the GMAX measurements into acceptable ranges. However, given the condition of the field and noticeable loss of fiber, top dressing may not be a viable option as there are limited or very weak filaments to help mitigate infill migration across the surface and therefore remediation may not be possible to bring the surface into compliance with ASTM and STC impact attenuation recommendations”.
In 2019, the Texas Legislature passed legislation requiring the ballot for all school district bond referendums to include the sentence, “This is a property tax increase.” The sentence is required even if no actual tax rate increase will occur. For the La Vernia ISD 2023 bond, taxpayers will NOT see an increase to the tax rate as a result of approving the bond propositions on the ballot.
What is the difference between M&O and I&S?
M&O (Maintenance & Operations) refers to the funds that are needed to finance current year operations to include day to day operations , employee compensation and the purchase of supplies and materials. I&S (Interest & Sinking) refer to the funds needed to construct new facilities and/or meet annual long-term debt obligations. According to the law, I&S funds cannot be used to pay M&O expenses. This means voter-approved bonds cannot be used to increase teacher salaries or pay rising costs for utilities and services.
