Dear Grade Eight,

This English course will zoom in on concepts such as sentence structures, mechanics, poetry, and literary elements. The literature unit will cover the following novels and play: Great Expectations, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Schwa Was Here, and Animal Farm.

For vocabulary, you will be given twenty words on Fridays.  The list of words must be submitted on Wednesdays via <formative.com> with the definition, part of speech, 2 synonyms, 2 antonyms, and the vocab word in a sentence. You will then be quizzed on Mondays.  

The grading scale comprises of the following categories and weightings:

• Classwork        35 points

• Assessments   30

• Writing             25

• Homework      10

Please make the necessary effort to submit all work on time. This practice will prevent you for losing 20% daily for late submissions.
