7th Grade Math

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Lumberton Middle School, we look forward to a great year! Seventh grade is an important year for mathematics, as they move from concrete, computational math prevalent in earlier grades, to the abstract, higher order math they will see in high school. Highlights of the course include operations with rational numbers, work with linear relationships, solving multi-step equations, probability, three dimensional geometry, ratios and proportions, along with financial literacy.

Our math textbooks are called “consumables”. This means each student gets their own textbook and they can pull out the specific pages they need and work through them; similar to a workbook. Students will be given access to an online textbook, identical to the textbook in our classroom. We have many resources available to access at home and will send your student’s log-in information when we receive it.

Supplies:

  1. Pencils

  2. Math Folder

  3. Math Spiral (Single Subject Notebook)

Classroom Expectations:

  1. Be a Learner: come to class prepared and ready to learn, participate, follow directions, and have needed supplies.

  2. Be Respectful: do not interrupt the learning of others, work cooperatively as a team and listen.

  3. Be Responsible: keep up with your assignments, homework, study for tests, communicate with your teachers and parents, and come to class on time.

  4. Be Safe: keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself and no horseplay.

A big concern is how to stay involved once your child is in Middle School. We use Remind as one of our main forms of communication.

If at any time you have a question or concern, please feel free to contact us. The easiest and quickest way to get a response is email. We work really hard to communicate with our parents, so please let us know if we can help in some way.

We look forward to working together to achieve our main goal which is to help your students reach their potential. We have a theme in our classes where we encourage them to realize that “Math Can Be Fun!”

Sincerely,

Chelsye Hernandez
