First, set up a College Board account to get access to SAT scores. https://www.collegeboard.org/
Do not use your school email address when setting up accounts and applying. Once you graduate from Luling High School you will no longer have access to your school email address. Use a personal email address.
Attend Virtual College Fairs or go on College/ Trade School visits. (You are allowed 2 per semester)
We will host a College and Career Fair on October 27th from 9:00 - 12:00.
Investigate college's tuition-guarantee programs and find out if you qualify to receive these grants based on your assured admissions status to the institution and your household income. Checkout the Tuition-Guarantee Tab for this information.

SAT/ ACT/ TSI - College Readiness Exams
Register to take the SAT/ACT test and send scores directly to all the colleges you are applying to. SAT Test Dates. ACT Test Dates.
TSI will be offered at Luling High School, Date: TBD. The cost will be $10 for both sections or $5 for 1 section.

College Applications
Everything you need to know about the Apply Texas Application.
Complete the GoApplyTexas.org admission application (most popular). Others are The Coalition, The Common Application, and the Universal College Application. Make sure you apply with the correct application system that has your college or university listed. Some colleges will be listed in some systems while some will be in others.
Begin writing and revising essays. Submit those admissions essays online along with your college applications. Apply Texas Essay Prompts / The Common Application Essay Prompts.
Make sure you complete the resume page on GoApplyTexas...do not just check the box and leave it blank.
Copy the application to other schools once complete.
Finish and submit the university scholarship portion of the application on GoApplyTexas. Some university scholarships are due November 1st.
Complete the CSS profile if needed. It is an online application used by certain colleges and scholarship programs to determine eligibility for their aid dollars. More information is located under the Financial Aid tab to check for participating colleges and scholarships.
Pay college application fees or submit a fee waiver. Application fee waivers from College Board are accessible from student's individual College Board accounts. (Ms. White can help find the fee waivers if you qualify)
Dual Credit students need to send an ACC transcript to your colleges if you want your grades to be taken into consideration during the admission process.
OnRamps students need to send an UT transcript to your colleges if you want your grades to be taken into consideration during the admission process.
Complete your college housing application(s) if you plan to live on campus.

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid
Attend Financial Aid Night, October 5 or October 24 at 6:00 pm in the Library.

October 1st the FAFSA application opens.
You must set up your FSA ID (and your parent will need one, too) and start gathering information so you can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), make sure to protect your FSA ID and keep it in a secure place so that you will have it later when you need it.
Make sure you complete the FAFSA for the 2023 - 2024 school year.
After completing your FAFSA, watch out for the e-mail notice indicating your Student Aid Report (SAR) is ready. You will need to review your SAR for errors and make any corrections as indicated.

Scholarships
Begin applying for National Scholarships, especially scholarships offered by the colleges you are applying to. Checkout the scholarship search engines under the scholarship tab.
Local Scholarships will be discussed in January 2023.
Look into the Hazlewood Act if your parent is a veteran who entered service in the state of Texas.
Create a resume. Example #1, Examples #2
Acquire 2-3 letters of recommendation to use for college/ trade school applications and scholarship applications.
Report ALL scholarship offers to Ms. White. Bring a copy of your scholarship offer to me, we would like to recognize them at our Scholarship Ceremony at the end of the year. Nationally, October is a major scholarship month.

Stay on track with grades and extracurricular activities: don't slack off, colleges look into what you have done your senior year too!
