Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Luling High School strives to improve our students success at school through promoting SEL both in the classroom and campus wide. Through building social emotional skills, LHS students are better equipped for higher academic achievement. SEL is about how teaching and learning happens, as well as what you teach and where you learn. The SEL framework at LHS focuses on five competencies that help to inspire minds and help our students navigate the world more effectively. The five competencies include: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
