School plays a major role in a student’s life and when they aren’t comfortable in their environment, they feel as though something is missing. When all of these pieces come together at the Lindenhurst Academy, students are able to once again thrive and learn to feel positive about themselves and their academic experience. They can once again be whole. The goal of the Lindenhurst Academy is to provide secondary students who require more intensive social and emotional support, with an opportunity to thrive in an accepting, non-traditional academic environment.
Individual - Each student enrolled in the program has a unique experience based upon his/her individual needs. Certified educators work collaboratively with the students’ classroom teachers to ensure that academic requirements are being met. The program also makes available instructional and clinical services to students and their families including one-on-one, small group and family counseling as needed with licensed clinicians.
Acceptance - For many students, the idea of attending class can be overwhelming and result in feelings that prohibit growth. The Lindenhurst Academy was designed with those students in mind. The facility, housed at the E.W. Bower Building, reflects a warm and accepting learning environment, allowing students to feel welcome and safe. This environment encourages students to work collaboratively or independently and will support academic, social and emotional growth.
Inspiration - A dedicated team of professionals, including certified teachers, school counselor, social worker and psychologists, work closely with the enrolled students on all of their academic areas. In addition, students receive the individualized support they need to become inspired to create personal goals for not only their academic journey, but for their life’s journey.
Growth - The work that students do at the Lindenhurst Academy facilitates academic and social/emotional growth. As students develop a stronger sense of security and comfort, they have the opportunity to re-enter a more traditional learning environment with the support of their educators, classmates and family. Upon successful completion of the program, students enrolled at the Lindenhurst Academy will obtain a Lindenhurst High School diploma.
