Scavenger hunt!
Fun day at Crex!
We had a great time "eating" different foods with our artificial beaks at the different stations.
The hummingbird station. Students used syringes to move "food" from one cup to another.
Students had to use tweezers, pliers, fish nets and more as their artificial beaks.
Picking up seeds and nuts!
One station had students try and catch pom poms in a little fishing net!
"Fishing" for food with their net like beaks.
Working hard sketching their tree!
A beautiful, yet chilly morning!
First graders always strike the best poses.
The "toucan" station
Looking for ducks on our scavenger hunt!
They're dropping from the ceiling! Yikes!
Spooky day here in 1st grade!
We made the World's BEST hot chocolate with our 4th grade reading buddies!
Students got to chose from a variety of ingredients including: whipped cream, marshmellows, candy canes, and sprinkles!
4th and 1st graders had to get their writing done before enjoying the sweet treat!
To conclude our unit on penguins, we did a blubber glove experiment! We tested the icy Antarctic waters first by using a "glove" of blubber on our hands, and then by dipping our bare hands into the chilly water.
It was quite a shock (and made quite a few laughs) to dip our bare hands into the icy waters!
Jens volunteered to test out the icy waters first!
We decided that while penguins are happy down in Antarctica, we wouldn't last their too long!
Some of the students thought the icy water felt nice!
All our "nice" pictures put together were not as fantastic as our silly picture.
As a part of our Traditions Around the World unit, we learned about Christmas in Germany. Families in Germany often celebrate the Christmas season by making gingerbread people. We tested out some traditional gingerbread men in class!
There were debates on what part of the gingerbread man was best eaten first!
My consistent picture taking has left my wonderful subjects to pose in some silly ways!
I've learned that the "sneak attack" method works best for my picture taking... Maybe someday it won't be such a task!
