I’m James Springsteen, and I grew up in Cumberland, WI. I graduated from UW-Stout with a major in Art Education and a minor in Studio Art, with a concentration in Printmaking. Since 2022, I’ve been teaching art at Luck, working with students from 4K through 12th grade. I love helping students explore their creativity and grow as both artists and individuals. Building strong relationships is a big part of my teaching philosophy—I want students to feel confident, inspired, and proud of their work.
I live in Luck with my fiancé, our two cats, Leo and Cinder, our pup Murphie, and we’re excited to welcome our baby boy, Jack, soon! On days when we don’t have school, we enjoy spending time with family and friends—whether it’s relaxing around a bonfire, going camping, playing Singo (bingo with songs), visiting our favorite downtown tavern, or just soaking up the sun on a nice patio.
This website provides information about my background, my philosophy in education and art, detailed course descriptions and syllabi, as well as project overviews for each course I teach.
In my art class, I guide students through a diverse array of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, and photography. Each medium offers its own unique techniques and possibilities, which we explore in depth. Alongside hands-on projects, we study significant artists and the historical contexts of their work, providing a comprehensive understanding of art's evolution and impact. This approach not only enhances technical skills but also enriches students’ appreciation of art history and its relevance to contemporary practices.
I believe every child has their own unique personality and creative spark. Building strong relationships with students is key to helping them grow—not just as artists, but as people. My role is to encourage them to enjoy the creative process and take pride in doing their best. As a lifelong learner and passionate art teacher, I’m committed to working with others to create a safe, respectful space where all students can thrive.
