Advanced Art

Take your art skills to the next level with Advanced Art, designed to give you a glimpse into the college art experience. Over the course of the semester, you’ll complete a total of five projects, each lasting about four weeks. Every project begins with an inspiring week of research, where you’ll explore a new artist, develop a proposal, and sketch out your creative vision. The remaining three weeks are dedicated to bringing your ideas to life using your favorite medium. This course challenges you to think like an artist, expand your creative horizons, and prepare for the collaborative and exploratory world of college art.
Ceramics
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Dive into the exciting world of clay with Ceramics! This hands-on course lets you explore the versatility of three-dimensional art through projects that balance sculptural creativity with functional design. You’ll create unique works like Balloon-Inspired Sculptures, Donatello-Style Relief Plates, Ugly Face Mugs, Wheel-Thrown Pieces, Cultural Masks, and Functional Ceramic Tableware. Along the way, you’ll deepen your understanding of the elements and principles of art and design, learning how they come to life in three-dimensional form. Digital Art
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Get hands-on with Photoshop and Illustrator in Digital Art & Design, a course that puts professional-grade tools at your fingertips. Throughout the class, you’ll design your own Emojis, Posters, and Logos, create Magazine Covers and Comic Strips, experiment with Pixel Art, and bring a mythical creature to life with lifelike detail. This class is perfect for blending your imagination with digital tools to produce dynamic and engaging projects.
Drawing
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

In Drawing, students will be working on drawing methods and techniques. Focusing on mark making and line weight. Working in different drawing mediums like: Charcoal, White Chalk, Oil Pastels, Color Pencil, and Ink. Projects included are: Animal Skulls, Glass Still Lives, Dali inspired Photo Montage, Celebrity Portraits, Landscapes, Mixed Media (Student’s Choice).
Intro to Art
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Discover your creative potential in Introduction to Art, a class designed to give you hands-on experience with a variety of artistic mediums. From ceramics and painting to drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, each project introduces new techniques and terms like texture, contrast, and composition. Projects include Charcoal Animals, O’Keeffe-Inspired Bowls, Custom Playing Cards using printmaking, Watercolor Landscapes, Contour Wire Shoes, and a Mixed Media Portrait that allows you to showcase your personal artistic choices. This foundational course is a prerequisite for advanced art classes and the perfect starting point for your artistic journey.
Painting
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Dive into the world of painting where you'll learn the art of mixing colors, exploring color theory, and understanding different painting styles, from abstract to realism and contextualism to conceptual art. This course lets you experiment with various types of paints, starting with tempera, moving to acrylic, and finishing with watercolor. Projects include Mandala Color Wheels, Monochromatic Landscapes, Abstract Paintings from Reference, Rembrandt-Inspired Emphasis and Contrast, a Brother's Grimm Fairytale Watercolor, and an Artist-Based Inspired Project of your choice. This class will help you build a strong foundation in painting while encouraging your own creative expression.
Photography and Film
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Explore the art of visual storytelling in Photography & Film, where you’ll learn to use professional cameras and create compelling compositions. This class covers both photography and film, teaching you essential skills like Depth of Field, Shutter Speed, Macro Photography, and Panoramas, alongside basic editing techniques using Photoshop. In film, you'll learn dynamic techniques such as Match Motion, Changing Focus, and Moving Camera shots, as well as how to match music to film and add voice overs. By the end of the course, you’ll pull all of these skills together into one final project, showcasing your ability to capture and create engaging visual content.
Printmaking
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)

Delve into the world of printmaking, where you'll explore a variety of methods such as Relief, Screen Printing, Monoprinting, and Collagraphs. In this class, you'll practice carving and layering relief prints to create powerful positive and negative images. With screen printing, you’ll focus on layering techniques to design images that can be turned into posters. Projects include an Albrecht-Inspired Block Print (single layer), a Hokusai-Inspired Block Print (multiple layers), a Social Commentary Print, a Collagraph Landscape, a Monotype Print, and a Band Poster. This course is a prerequisite for the advanced class, Screen Printing, and is perfect for anyone eager to expand their printmaking skills.
Screen Printing
Course Length: 1 Semester ( .5 Credit)
Elective Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Printmaking
Take your printmaking skills to the next level in Advanced Screen Printing, where you’ll focus entirely on the screen printing press. This class is designed for students who have already completed the prerequisite Printmaking course due to the cost and specialized equipment. You’ll learn to create multi-layered prints, progressing beyond single-layer designs to achieve more complex, vibrant results. You’ll also explore printing on shirts and working with larger-scale projects. One exciting project possibility includes designing a custom wallpaper to display in the hallway. This class is your opportunity to dive deep into the art of screen printing and create bold, impactful designs.
