Brett Berridge
Director of Orchestras
Mr. Berridge is director of orchestras at Monterey High School. After graduating from Texas Tech University in 2001 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, he took his first teaching position in Odessa at Nimitz Middle School, where he remained for six years. This is Mr. Berridge’s 19th year at Monterey, and he is enjoying teaching his students while continuing to serve the Lubbock Region for TMEA as the Secretary/Treasurer.
Through his efforts, the Monterey orchestra program has flourished, growing from one orchestra to three,
while also creating a strolling strings ensemble in 2014, and having symphony orchestra reinstituted in 2017 after a nearly decade-long absence.
In 2009, in only his second year at the helm, the Monterey High School Varsity Orchestra received the first String Orchestra Sweepstakes in the then-almost 60-year history of the school. Since then, his orchestras have continued to achieve many other accolades and honors, both locally and state-wide including numerous Sweepstakes awards at UIL and numerous “Overall Outstanding” awards at various state competitions. In 2018 Mr. Berridge was selected as one of 16 pilot teachers nation-wide to represent Texas and participate in the National Association for Music Education’s “Experiential Ensembles” grant study which focuses on student-centered learning.
Mr. Berridge is an active clinician and adjudicator across the state, while also performing in several area symphony orchestras. His professional memberships include the Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Orchestra Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, and Mu Omicron. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family – his wife Beth, two sons Jefferson (21) and Jarrett (18), and daughter Julianne (15).
