Click here to read with help the non fiction book “Clown Fish”. What colors are clown fish? Do they live in warm or cold oceans?

1st grade: Click here to link to Epic.com. Log in and search for the book “Charlie to the Rescue”. You can listen to it as you read along. Then take the quiz at the end of the story. If you don’t have your own login, use Ms. Oliver’s class code: vbp6434. Choose “guest” as your name and find the book in the mailbox.
2nd grade: Head to your Google classrooms. Ms. Oliver will be visiting each of your classrooms this week, and having a “live lesson” on American symbols. See you then!
3rd grade: Head to your Google classrooms to find an activity in your Library Skills folder about Sir Edmund Hilary.
Pre-K and Kindergarten: Follow along as Ms. Oliver reads a non-fiction book about butterflies here. Then, watch how to make a simple craft of a butterfly's life-cycle here.
First grade: Read the book "African Elephants" found here (you can listen along to the book as you read it). What is an African elephant taller than? (Look on page 7). How much can they weigh?
Second grade: In your Google classroom under "Library Skills", you'll find an activity about Independence Day.
Third grade: In your Google classroom under "Library Skills", you'll find an activity about Mt. Everest.
Earth Day is happening this week, so it’s a great time to think about recycling, gardening, and just getting outside to be in nature. Listen to Ms. Oliver read from the book "Green Gardening and Composting" by clicking here.
You can also click here to watch a video of Ms. Oliver making a mini-composter, using a recycled water bottle. The instructions are here. In about two weeks you can have compost to put in your garden outside, or in a windowsill planter. Have fun!
Pre-K and Kindergarten:
Click here to read (with help) the book “Earthworms”. The heading on page 14 says “Food”. What do earthworms eat? On page 20 you can see the size of the smallest earthworm. How big is it? (Abdo: Username: ABDO Elementary Password: 2020)
1st grade: Click here to read the book “Recycling” (with help as needed). On page 9 it says that “tiny organisms break down the waste”. Can you see the organisms in the picture? What are they? Next turn to page 11. How does compost help plants grow? (Abdo: Username: ABDO Elementary Password: 2020)
2nd grade: Click here to go to Epic. You can login to Ms. Oliver's page with the code vbp6434. Choose "guest" and find the book "Our Organic Garden". You must do the Epic quiz at the end of the book. There is also a compost activity in your Google classroom under the "Library" section that you should complete.
3rd grade: Head over to getepic.com. Login with our library class code vbp6434. Please go to your personal mailbox and read the compost book found there. Then complete the quiz at the end of the book. You will have a composting document in Google classroom under "Library" to complete and turn in.

Activities:
Pre-K and Kindergarten: Click here to read this book “Mice Squeak!” at home (with help as needed) and count how many rhyming words you can find.

First grade: Write an acrostic poem using your name. You can click here to use Read, Write, Think.org to create your poem. Which words best describe you? Make sure to put them in your poem!
Second grade: Find the two funny “poetry starters” by Jack Prelutsky in your Google classrooms under “Library”. Read and then finish the poems in your document.
Third grade: Click here to write a haiku poem. It doesn’t have to rhyme, but you must follow these rules: The poem must be 3 lines long. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables. Good luck!
