Math Acceleration begins in sixth grade and is based on data collection of multiple measures. Students who are enrolled in this course are provided with enrichment opportunities that engage them in experiences that allow for greater depth of understanding in grade level content and application of procedural skills, fluency, and problem solving. Each year in May, we send a letter home to families explaining the Math 6 Acceleration Process. Families are notified in June if their child is placed in Math 6 Accelerated. Access to accelerated math courses when students are ready provide them with more opportunities to take higher level math courses as they continue into their high school and college career. This could be especially important should they choose to pursue or even help shape their interest to pursue a career in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).
Placement letters for students who are recommended for Math 6 Accelerated will be sent home at the end of June. If you have any questions or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact Kristin Burke (kburke@ltps.org).
