Beginning in sixth grade, there are two math courses available to students: Math 6 and Math 6 Accelerated. Both courses provide an opportunity for students to engage in rigorous content at a high level. However, due to the pace, Math 6 Accelerated includes additional enrichment opportunities that reflect some of the seventh grade New Jersey Student Learning Standards for math. Some of the seventh grade content that students explore include:
Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions.
Identify and use properties of addition and multiplication
Compare and order integers, and find the absolute value of an expression
Describe situations in which opposite quantities combine to make zero
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers
Simplify fractions using GCF
Write fractions and decimals and decimals as fractions
Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
Write ratios as fractions and find unit rates through equivalent fractions, tables, and graphs
Use ratios and proportions to solve problems, including scale and conversions
Test proportional relationships using equivalent ratios in a table or graph
Write decimals and fractions as percents and vice versa
Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
Use the Distributive Property to simplify expressions
Solve equations using the Properties of Equality
Write and solve two-step equations
Use formulas to solve real-world and geometry problems
Solve equations containing rational numbers
Solve equations with variables on each side and with grouping symbols
Write and graph inequalities
Solve inequalities using the Properties of Inequalities
