Welcome to 6th grade science ~

This school year, students will be learning that science is not just a content area, it is also a tool. The skills that we will develop this year - from modeling and data analysis to designing investigations and constructing arguments - will serve students in many contexts outside of their academic experience. Our work will focus on concepts in Earth and Space Science including Earth's History, Earth and Space Systems, Weather and Climate, and Human Impacts. We will also practice thoughtfully communicating what we have learned to our school and local communities.

in Language Arts~

In Literacy and Language Arts, we will focus on developing fluency and comprehension in reading through a variety of critical thinking strategies, flexible grouping, and targeted resources. We make deliberate choices to expose students to a wide variety of genres in literature.

Our writing focus is based on the Lucy Calkins Writer’s Workshop. It involves lessons in multiple facets of the writing process. Genres in writing include Argumentative Writing, Narrative Writing, and Informative Writing.

• Email is generally the best way to contact me. I do my best to respond promptly to any questions or concerns with an email or phone call. If further discussion is necessary, we may set up a meeting to touch base in person.
• I care very much about making science class and the practices we use authentic and meaningful. My goal is to find a way for every student to access and engage with our content.
• If you have skills/experience that might be relevant to our science work this year and would be interested in sharing that with our class, please feel free to reach out! It is important to me that students see real science in action and have models for the many ways we use science and scientific practices in our daily lives.
