Google Meet

Safety, privacy, and respect are all important to consider when using any online tools and videoconferencing is no exception. We appreciate and understand that this is new for many people so please read our guidelines and tips below.

Requirements for Students on L-S Video Calls

  • For all online classes, students will be expected to be present and visible, with cameras on, for the entirety of each synchronous class meeting. (Parents/Guardians may ask for exceptions through their student’s House Office.)

  • Dress and behavior should be classroom appropriate.

  • Regular attendance as per the teacher’s requirements. (Student absences must be reported to house offices in the same manner as in person absences.)

  • Before each and any call, inform others in your living space that you will be on a video/audio call

  • Please use the Chrome browser when using Google Meet (it will work best in Chrome, and does NOT work in certain other browsers)

  • Before clicking the “Join now” button, double-check your surroundings and yourself – the background of the video you’ll share, any ambient noise, and the way you are presenting yourself – to make sure they are appropriate for a class setting and not distracting

  • You may NOT record the video call as video, audio, or still images (screen captures, etc.)

  • You may NOT invite others (share the link) to any Meet hosted by an L-S staff member

  • All LSRHS policies and guidelines, such as the Discipline Code and the Acceptable Use Policy, should be followed, as applicable

Respect privacy. No recording of any type is allowed.

Mic & Camera Settings

  • When you're not speaking it can he helpful to have your mic off. Click the icon, it'll turn red. Clicking the icon again will turn it back on.

  • You do not need to be on camera. You can click your camera off by turing the icon red

  • The middle phone icon will disconnect you from the Meet

How to join a Google Meet with a code/nickname

  1. Go to meet.google.com

  2. Click on the Join or start meeting button

  3. Enter the code/nickname you were given

  4. Next you’ll be taken to the page below where you can join the Meet

  1. In your email or calendar event you will see a link that looks like https://meet.google.com/xxx-xxxx-xxx

  2. The link will bring you to the page shown to the right
    When ready, click the Join now button
