Excerpts from Superintendent/Principal Bella Wong's email on 4/15:
"Here are several new updates for this spring."
"2. Massachusetts Commissioner of Education Jeff Riley has announced there will be NO additional administration of MCAS for the remainder of this school year. Every L-S student who is planning to graduate this June has already passed all the necessary requisite MCAS tests required for graduation. I have no new information about what will happen to the missed grade 10 MCAS administration that was to have taken place this past March.
3. L-S School Committee voted last night to cancel April School vacation to allow us to continue with our remote learning program through April 21-24. Note that Monday, April 20, 2020, is Patriots Day and remains a no school holiday. The last day for seniors remains May 29. The last day of school for grades 9-11 is now Thursday, June 18."
"5. There will be no final exams this year. There will be regular school days through the end of the spring term. "
Excerpts from Superintendent/Principal Bella Wong's email on 4/6:
"Our highest priority is the physical and emotional health of everyone in our community. There is no way to replicate the school environment in a remote teaching and learning format, but our goal is to maintain connections in a way that lessens stress and anxiety in the interests of strengthening our community.
Curriculum teams are working together closely to ensure consistency of curriculum coverage among different teachers of courses."
"In moving to Phase II of remote teaching and learning, some L-S teachers may choose to use Google Meet to host video conferencing as a way of holding office hours or checking in with students. At this time, Google Meet is the only LSRHS-approved video conferencing platform that students will be invited to use by school staff.
Video conferencing may be a tool that helps some of our students and staff feel connected to each other, our community, and the learning that is taking place. We understand that, especially at the beginning of its use, there will be concerns and a learning curve. With that in mind, please take a few minutes to review these guidelines:
• recognize that video conferences and other online services will be taking place in the homes of the educators and students who participate in the calls, and to be mindful of everyone’s right to privacy while also taking measures to secure their own privacy
• during Meets, the behavioral expectations are the same as if you were in a school classroom or on school property
• limit disruptions to remote lessons to the extent feasible (see suggestions in link below)
• students, and parents/guardians must refrain from recording any and all remote lessons (this includes photos, screenshots, or any recording of video or audio)
• students are expected to review and follow the L-S Student Meet Video Guidelines
By participating in the remote learning opportunities, student and parent/guardian consent to the above and the L-S Student Meet Video Guidelines is hereby provided."
From Superintendent/Principal Bella Wong's email on 3/18:
"Teachers, including special educators and counselors, will be in touch with students starting this Friday, 3/20. The purpose of this material is not to replace our current curriculum but to provide enrichment through this period of closure. At this time we are not planning to hold periods of synchronous (real time) learning. The lessons will be varied across teachers and disciplines with continuous universal monitoring. We are striving for this to be a purposeful connection with our students to ensure their wellbeing. To that end, we will be keeping a record of participation.
Students are expected to check their LS email every day."
Reminder: Students should be checking their L-S email daily for school and class information.
