Mrs. Hughes

Hi!  I'm Carey Hughes and I'm new to LSR7, but not new to education.  I started my career as a secondary Spanish teacher working in Eldon and later Columbia, Missouri (M-I-Z!).  I realized as a teacher that my favorite part of my job was when I could help students work through their struggles. So, I went to night school at Stephens College and earned my counseling degree!  I began my counseling career as a middle school counselor in Columbia, and then in 2020, my husband Tom and I decided to move to the Kansas City area, landing in Lee's Summit!  That's when I found my true love as an elementary school counselor!  This is my first year working in 2 buildings and I am already learning so much! I look forward to getting to know students and staff in both RHE and MLE this year!  

My husband Tom works for Catalent, a pharmaceutical company in Kansas City.  We are blessed to have both adult children nearby!  Holly lives in Lee's Summit with her sweet dog Rose.  She is an amazing nurse, working at St. Luke's East on the night shift.  Brady works for Honeywell in Kansas City as an electrical engineer.  He lives in Belton.  We love spending time together as a family.
