We all know that every single establishment, every single home, and every single thing – are all exposed to all types of disasters (either natural or man-made). In the case that we are tackling right in this presentation – Brgy. Dela Paz, Antipolo City, Province of Rizal – there are at least tens of disasters that are happening every single year that continues to claim our beloved loved ones that end up in tragedies. Such a factor that we should all know about – the preparedness of our communities – is one important, essential factor that we should instill into our lives as humans in order to diminish the risks and hazards brought by these disasters.
Now that we are in the 21st century, into the new technological revolution, there are new trends out there that can improve the safety and security of the people within our community. Disasters may have the capability to immobilize our functioning civilization as time goes on. Since it is nearly impossible to track down these disasters (when and where it would take place), it is still possible that we can reduce the risks and impacts brought by these individual disasters.
Exposure to Hazards
Every single establishment and every single matter are exposed to almost all types of disasters – either natural or man-made. Regardless of the materials that are used [for construction], the ground profile, and the structure type, these establishments and buildings are ultimately exposed to these disasters as these disasters can rip off the structure of these and can also cause fear and anxiety.
Houses, trees, electrical wires & posts, establishments [buildings] that provide products and services, roads, covered courts, etc. – these are the man-made structures that are exposed to these natural disasters like floods, typhoons, and earthquakes – given by our fellow groupmates who reside in Barangay Dela Paz.
Villages/Subdivisions and its objects that are exposed to these hazards:
Greenland Subdivision
Greenland Subdivision has a low risk when exposed to these hazards, but, on the northern portion of the subdivision, there is a cliff that may also be the source of landslides. A creek, still on the northern portion of the subdivision, is also present near the subdivision.
- Typhoon: Everything, including trees, houses, electrical posts & wires, establishments, recreational facilities, etc., are exposes to this type of disaster or hazard, however, there seems to have minimal effect at all – because these buildings (establishments, recreational facilities, and houses – present in this subdivision) had recently existed. However, if it were to be stronger, it can cause moderate damage to its surroundings – roads, houses, trees, electrical posts, and other buildings & establishments.
- Landslide: It is possible – at the northern portion of the subdivision – a cliff. However, there seems to have no effect on humans and infrastructure. The cliff can only produce a very small landslide.
- Earthquake: Everything, including houses, roads, trees, electrical posts, and establishments, are affected. However, these buildings are much more recent that it can withstand up to an earthquake with a destructive level of intensity.
- Flood: It is almost unlikely that a flood can occur in the said subdivision and has a minimal effect at all, however, there is a creek north of the subdivision that may overflow during the wet season, most especially rainy days.
Victoria Valley Subdivision
Victoria Valley has a low to moderate risk when exposed to these hazards, on the central and southwestern portion of the said village.
- Typhoon: Everything, including trees, electrical posts & wires, houses, etc., are exposed to this type of disaster or hazard, however, there seems to have a minimal effect on well-built buildings as an incoming typhoon would batter the entire area. If a typhoon were to be stronger, it can cause near-moderate to heavy damage to property.
- Landslide: Not a single element is exposed to this hazard or disaster, because a landslide is unlikely to happen around a portion of the village, even if there is a typhoon.
- Earthquake: It may vary depending upon the strength and intensity of it, however, with a number of well-built houses present in the area, these are capable of withstanding a strong earthquake.
- Flood: Roads and houses are affected; however, it has a low chance of occurring. If it were to be during the wet season, the chance that a flood can occur is thereby increased.
Villa Ligaya Subdivision
Villa Ligaya has a creek southwest of the village, with a high chance of flooding due to overflowing during rainy days (most especially during the wet season) of the said creek. However, within the village itself, there is a low chance that these hazards can pose danger to the said village.
- Typhoon: Everything, including trees, electrical posts & wires, houses, etc., are all exposed to this type of disaster or hazard. There is a creek southwest of the village that may overflow anytime during rainy days - it poses danger only to the houses that are near the creek.
- Landslide: It is impossible that a landslide can occur in the village.
- Earthquake: Everything – including buildings, electrical posts, etc. – are exposed, however, the damage may vary depending upon the intensity of the earthquake.
- Flood: Within the village itself, there’s no hazard at all; however, there is a creek southwest of the village. If the creek were to overflow, it can flood through and inside houses that are affected. Only the houses in the southwest portion of the village are affected.
