Band of the Future Night
Thank you for your interest in being a founding member of the Seneca Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. The following are the criteria for acceptance into the chapter provided by Tri-M:
Candidates must have been in attendance at Seneca for at least one semester and meet all requirements listed below. Current 9th grade students ARE currently eligible to attend service activities and gather points, and will be inducted in the spring semester.
Music Participation
Candidates are enrolled in a school-sponsored music ensemble and/or class for at least one semester of the current school year. (Current 9th graders are eligible if they are involved in ensemble class or Marching Band)
Eligible ensembles include: All Choirs, All Wind Bands, Percussion Ensemble, Orchestra, Marching Band, and Jazz Band.
Additional service points are awarded for enrollment in more than one ensemble or music class on the following basis:
15 points for additional ensemble or ensemble class
10 points for additional non-ensemble classes (Piano Lab, Guitar, Music Theory, Tech in Music, etc.)
No more than 25 “class-points” will be awarded per year to maintain service element
Academic Achievement
Candidates must maintain at least an 90% average grade or equivalent in music courses, with at least a cumulative 80% average grade or equivalent in other academic subjects.
Leadership
Leadership roles in both musical or non-musical school and community functions will be acknowledged, as long as they can be verified. Informal leadership will be considered.
Service
All students must maintain 50 service points per year in addition to their ensemble enrollment. Service activities include any actions undertaken by the student that are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation. Individual acts of service must be related to the performing arts unless otherwise noted by the Advisor, and point values will be established prior to service between students and the Advisor.
Character
Judgment of character is free of speculation and rumor. The ideal Tri-M member is a person who demonstrates respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, and citizenship. Enrollment decisions regarding character are only made by the Advisor with insight from Seneca Staff
