Teacher Spotlight 2/15: Ms. Fritsch

Catie Eisenhuth

Ms. Fritsch is one of the FCS teachers at Seneca High School. She teaches Intro to FCS, Fashion 1, and Fashion 2.

Out of the courses she teaches now, her favorite classes to teach are the Fashion classes, which are Fashion 1 and 2. Fashion 3 has never run at Seneca before!

Her favorite thing about Seneca is the close-knit “family” community we have here. She said that compared to being at a large school like Cherokee, here at Seneca everyone knows each other and is very friendly to one another.

Ms. Fritsch had an interesting road to becoming a Fashion/FCS teacher. She originally went to school for fashion design. After that, she had a job at the Walnut Street Theater for education. This was where she found that she loved the educational aspect of fashion!

When asked about her favorite memory at Seneca, Ms. Fritsch said she didn’t have a specific one, but she loves doing the previews for the fall drama and spring musical. “It’s cool to see everyone together and getting excited to see the show,” she added.

She wasn’t sure if given the opportunity she would ever teach another subject, but she eventually landed on history. This came up because she enjoys teaching fashion history. However, fashion education is more her style.

Lastly, some advice she would give to her students is “It is what it is. Everything will work out eventually.”

Teacher Spotlight 3/7: Mr. Kennevan

Paige Venable

Mr. Kennevan is currently a History teacher here at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, New Jersey. This year, he teaches AP Psychology, Accelerated Psychology, Accelerated World Cultures, and College Prep U.S. History II.

Out of all the classes that Mr. Kennevan teaches, he said that he doesn’t necessarily have a favorite class, instead, he enjoys all of his classes because he finds value in connecting with his students. He added, “...I enjoy connecting with students on a personal level and getting to know each one of them in an effort to motivate and inspire them in some ways.”

As for his family, he believes that it is the most important thing in his life. He is married with four children. Not only that, but he has awesome parents and very loving and supportive in-laws. He wrote, “I am truly grateful and blessed to have such wonderful people in my life”.

When asked what his favorite thing about Seneca High School is, Kennevan said that it would have to be the students and people he’s surrounded by every day. He further detailed, “I believe that a school is only as good as the people make it and we are truly lucky at Seneca to have such an amazing group of teachers and students - this place is unique compared to other places!”.

The reason why Mr. Kennevan desired to become a History teacher, is because he graduated from college with a B.A. in Psychology and a few years later, he earned his Master’s of Education with a concentration in History. However, he didn’t originally go to college with the intention of becoming a teacher. Yet, he decided to pursue a history certification because he not only enjoys learning about the facts and dates in history but the personalities of those involved, important events, etc. that have shaped our world over time.

Out of all the memories that he has made thus far here at Seneca, Kennevan’s favorite would have to be in 2018 when the Boys Varsity Basketball Team upset #3 Shawnee 50-49 in a crowded Seneca gym. He further detailed, “We were a big underdog coming into the game against Shawenee who by the way went on that season to win the Group 4 State Finals. The team showed amazing resiliency and the Seneca fans packed the gym to cheer them on to victory!”.

If he could teach any other subject, it would have to be English, specifically the Literature of the Holocaust.

Finally, one thing that Mr. Kennevan remembers to tell all of his students is, “The road to success is always under construction. Focus on the process and the product will take care of itself.”

Teacher Spotlight 2/28: Mr. Masci

Out of all the courses he currently teaches, he said that his favorite would have to be United States Foreign Affairs.

As for his family, Mr. Masci has been married to his wife, Amy, for almost fourteen years. Together, they have three kids: Kevin (12), Kyle (10), and Allison (5). They all live together in Medford, New Jersey.

When asked about his favorite thing about Seneca High School, he said that it would be the people he has taught/coached and worked with over the years. He further detailed, “I like to see students years after they graduate and see their life successes - that’s fun.”

The reason why Masci desired to become a History teacher was because he loves the story aspect of history. He mentioned, “That’s how I teach it - it’s one big story with lots of interesting characters and events that span the range of emotions.”

Out of all the memories from all the years that he has taught here at Seneca, Mr. Masci explained, “During the years that I coached football here I had some great kids that I coached and we’d eat lunch together and look at film of the upcoming opponent or our most recent game but also talk about what was going on with them in school and in life. I really liked spending that time with those guys and getting to know them better.”

If he could teach any other subject, he said that it would have to be Family Consumer Sciences, specifically the Foods classes. He added, “I’ve developed into a decent cook and I think I have something to offer in that area.”

Finally, the one thing that Mr. Masci always tells his students is, “Always be open to learning. Learning isn’t just for school, it’s for life. Strive to improve to be a better citizen and a productive member of society.”

Teacher Spotlight 2/22: Mr. Jensen

Paige Venable

Mr. Jensen is currently a History teacher here at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, New Jersey. This year, he teaches U.S. History II, Sociology and World Cultures.

Out of all the courses he teaches, he said that his favorite would have to be Sociology because the materials and conversations are always interesting and something that everyone can relate to.

As for his family, his daughter is a junior at New York University and his son is a senior at Haddonfield High School. His third “child” is their dog, Tanner, who is a cuddly 13-year-old Labrador mix.

When asked about his favorite thing about Seneca High School, Jensen explained that it would be the staff and students. He further detailed, “The staff and students are always looking for ways to help students have a great high school experience. In the classroom, on the athletic fields, support groups, fundraisers, and in school spirit activities, there’s always been an effort to make students feel supported and that their growth here is the highest priority.”

As for the reason he desired to become a History teacher, he mentioned that he’s always enjoyed the process of understanding the world that we all live in. Mr. Jensen stated, “I’m not a lover of the History Channel or documentaries about the past; my enthusiasm for the social sciences comes from a desire to see the patterns of our society, past and present.”

Out of all the memories he has made thus far teaching at Seneca, he said that there isn’t one that stands out because there are several! He’s been here since the school opened and all those early years were very special because they were all creating a ‘Seneca’ culture consisting of new activities, expectations, traditions, etc. Jensen further stated, “Starting the Girls Soccer team and Student Council are two things that stand out to me. The History Department Chili Cook-Off is another.”

If he could teach any other subject, he wrote that it would have to be Science, such as Earth science, physics, astronomy, etc. All of those topics are extremely fascinating to him.

Finally, one thing that Mr. Jensen always teaches his students is, “Be curious, not judgmental.”
