FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Automotive Program at Seneca High School, Carpentry Program at Cherokee High School and Welding/Metalwork Fabrication Program at Lenape High School are open to any current or rising LRHSD student from Evesham, Medford, Medford Lakes, Mount Laurel, Shamong, Southampton, Tabernacle and Woodland.

What are the benefits of LRHSD's Career Pathway programs?

In addition to the specific job skills each Career Pathway offers, there are benefits for LRHSD students who stay in the district for these specialized programs. It can be easier to maintain relationships in their home community, even if a student switches from one LRHSD school to another. Enrollment is locked in earlier than other schools that require multi-program exploration before a student is assigned to one course of study. Students can experience a full range of extracurricular activities such as football and performing arts. And, of course, LRHSD students are assured of the high-quality academic program that complements Career Pathways.

How would a student register for a Career Pathway program?

Registration for LRHSD’s Career Pathways programs started Dec. 1, 2021 for the 2022-23 school year, and students are invited to register until the start of fall classes. Admittance is not guaranteed, however. Like all courses, these special programs have capacity limits. To register or learn more, contact the school where your preferred Career Pathway program is offered.

Can current students take advantage of Career Pathway programs?

The Career Pathways programs that are being developed and/or expanded are focused on a four-year experience that leads to job-ready skills and, in some cases, certification. However, LRHSD is dedicated to meeting the needs of interested students who have already completed their freshman year. Older students can enroll in these specialty programs, and counselors will be creative with internship and independent study options to creatively build a worthwhile experience. Any interested student should start that process by talking with his or her academic counselor.

Additionally, LRHSD offers several career-focused options for smaller-scale exposures rather than 4-year comprehensive programs.

How will students get to school for Career Pathways programs?

Transportation will be provided for a student attending a Career Pathway program at his/her home school. LRHSD will provide bus transportation to and from school. If that student participates in an internship, he/she must provide transportation for that opportunity.

Consistent with Board Policy, transportation is not provided for any student attending an LRHSD school other than his/her home school. Students opting to pursue a Career Pathway program not offered in their home school must provide his/her own transportation to and from school and any applicable internship opportunities.

These transportation procedures mimic the way LRHSD offers students the opportunity to take part in JROTC programs at our different buildings.

Where will Career Pathways students participate in extra curricular activities?

Any student enrolled in a Career Pathways program at Seneca, Cherokee or Lenape will become a full-time student of that school. He/she will be eligible to participate in all school sports, clubs and activities.

Why can't a student stay in one school for academics and travel to a different school for career-focused courses?

The rotating schedule of LRHSD makes it impossible for a student to take academics at one building and a specialty program at another. Because of that, any student enrolled in a Career Pathway program at Seneca, Cherokee, or Lenape will become a full-time student of that school. He/she will be eligible to participate in all school sports, clubs, and activities. This is the same way LRHSD offers students the opportunity to take part in JROTC programs at our different school buildings.

How is real-world experience part of the goal for all LRHSD Career Pathway programs?

LRHSD is developing more in-depth Career Pathways programs to maximize opportunities for every student. Strengthening them means adding more professional equipment and forging partnerships with local businesses, which help students explore a broad range of interests and abilities. For each of these programs, the district’s goal is to provide practical skill training through internships, paying jobs, and/or job site experience. Supported by appropriate curricula and facilities, LRHSD’s Career Pathways programs will encourage students to pursue careers in the trades and inspire them to graduate from trade school or a specialized certification program.

What will the school day look like?

During freshman and sophomore years, each Career Pathways student will take one pathway-related course per year as an elective. During junior and senior years, each student will have the opportunity to attend class during the AM wheel and accumulate work experience with local businesses during the PM wheel as part of the LRHSD's Option Two program.

When will the bond-funded renovations be complete in the Automotive program?

The Automotive program is offered at Seneca High School for any LRHSD student, and it already has a robust curriculum that can lead to an entry-level Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. The space will be enhanced with bond funding that voters approved Nov. 2, 2021, but already the program is full-fledged. Freshman of 2021-22 make up the first class of that 4-year program.

When will the bond-funded renovations be complete in the Carpentry program?

What has been known as the Woodworking program at Cherokee High School will evolve to a more career-focused Carpentry program that teaches elements of building construction and provides hands-on experience using pneumatic nail guns, electric saws, and other construction-grade equipment. The new, fully equipped space for that program is expected to be ready for student use by fall 2023. Until then, all LRHSD students can take courses that include these elements.

When will the bond-funded renovations be complete in the Welding/Metalwork Fabrication program?

What has been known as the Metalwork program at Lenape High School will expand and develop into the Welding/Metalwork Fabrication program with an interconnected set of courses and practical experience. Bond-funded renovations will overhaul existing workshops to create a new and improved learning area that can accommodate instruction with multiple tools. It is expected to be ready for student use by fall 2023, but students can enroll for 2022-23 and take related courses that first year.
