WHAT PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS DO
WHAT PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS DO
Through our comprehensive counseling program, we provide supports that address the academic, career, and social/emotional needs of all students.
Classroom Lessons
We provide classroom lessons and large group activities to students, allowing all students access to the program. Some of the topics we teach about are coping skills, how to handle teasing, how to handle test anxiety, responsibility, who to go to for help when needed, and many others.
Small Groups and Individual Supports
For those students who need additional support, small group counseling or individual sessions are provided. Small groups consist of 2 - 6 students who work on skills that will help them to be more successful in the classroom and more effective in their interactions with others. Individual counseling is short term and solution focused in nature. Students who need long-term counseling services may be provided with a referral to an outside counseling agency.
Specialized Interventions (SBLC/Outside Referrals)
For those students who are not responding to small group or individualized interventions, a referral to SBLC or outside resources may be appropriate. This can be for academic or behavioral issues, truancy, medical issues, 504 and/or Special Education referrals, speech and language difficulties or any other barrier's to a child's success.
