Our Vision for Aspiring Artists
The Academy of Visual and Applied Arts aims to provide an education that allows students to foster their creative individuality while simultaneously learning how the arts can be integrated into all aspects of society.
Visual Arts Courses and Career Paths
A dedicated art staff will instruct students in a variety of visual and applied arts media. Year-long courses that are devoted to a specific medium are offered to our academy students. Visual Arts courses that are currently offered include: Art I, Art II, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics/Sculpture, Digital Media/Photography, and AP 2D/3D Art and Design. Upperclassmen will have the possibility to work, through independent study, on a particular medium of their choice in order to build and prepare a portfolio of work that highlights their artistic abilities and ambitions. Our student artists have the opportunity to showcase their work in local art galleries throughout Lafayette Parish, including our own space at the Acadiana Center for the Arts during the annual Student Arts Expo.
Students in this academy will be introduced to any number of career choices available as an artist as well as the steps necessary to begin looking into the arts as a profession. Careers in the visual and applied arts may include: graphic designer, illustrator, architect, industrial designer, web designer, set designer, camera operator, painter, muralist, photographer, ceramic artist, art appraiser, art critic, museum professional, art professor, animator, interior designer, and many more.
