Awesome things happen here

Hi! I am Melissa Harris and I am so excited to start another year here at Roosevelt Elementary School. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio (GO BUCKS!!) yet have lived here in Stevensville for 18 years with my husband Jordan, my three amazing kiddos; Brady (19), Casey (17) and Natalie (15) & my dog, Cooper (5).

I attended The Ohio State University where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Human Ecology specializing in Early Childhood Education in 2003. Then, in 2008 I earned my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Cleveland State University.

I taught in Wilmington, Illinois before starting my family in 2006. I then stayed home to raise my kiddos for 10 years.

This is my 10th year teaching here within the Lakeshore Public School District. I taught 2nd grade for two years at Stewart Elementary, four years in 1st grade here at Roosy & this will be my 4th year in third grade. I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this 2025-2026 school year.

I want to create a family of learners within our classroom. I take pride in creating relationships and a classroom environment where your child is a valued, trusted, and an integral part of our school family. I LOVE interactive, hands-on learning within third grade, & I believe that if we work together as a team we CAN accomplish this!

Interactive Learning style

In third grade I will provide a hands on, real world approach to make learning interactive. Interactive learning actively engages the students with materials & reinvigorates the classroom for both students and teachers.

THIRD GRADE is packed with IMPORTANT and exciting transitions across the board. In THIRD GRADE I am ensuring social emotional goals within the classroom & helping enable the process from practicing skills to mastering them within reading, writing & math. Students in 3rd grade are gaining confidence, making their own decisions & working cooperatively with other kids. Our third grade team plans & collaborates together to increase student learning and achievement. In 3rd grade, kids are still interested in EVERYTHING, they are excited about learning and eager to please. Students are moving from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," it is a BIG year within our curricular process and this process is exciting! Students, teacher, & parents become partners in this journey of knowledge acquisition. It is a huge year of growth that is amazing to watch and be a part of!
