...and everything in between
Third grade is a huge year of growth both academically and emotionally, but also for student independence.
We expect more STUDENT organization and responsibility from our kiddos throughout the year.
Your child is responsible for bringing in a healthy snack & water bottle each day.
*No juice or sports / enerdy drinks allowed within the classroom.
My expectation is that your child reads for
at least 20-30 minutes every night!
Your child is more than welcome to take a book from our classroom library home that they are reading. I will also lend out books that you may want to read together (I read/you read opportunities).
Children still LOVE to be read to!
I will assign a few pages of math homework each Monday which allows students multiple nights to finish the work. For example, an assignment given on Monday will be due on Friday. I understand that your weeks are busy, so this allows for some flexibility. At times, students will grade their own math homework using a red or green pen as we check over the assignment together in class. This gives them the opportunity to share strategies and monitor their own comprehension of concepts. If homework is not completed by the day that it is due, the student will complete the assignment during recess prior to math class.
The purpose of math homework is for extra practice/reinforcement and is an opportunity for you to help your child at home with math skills.
ALL Classroom parties will be from 2:00-3:00
sign ups will be emailed closer to party date
Friday October 31
(Halloween parade will be prior to party outside; IF inclement weather, parade will be cancelled)
Thursday December 18
Thursday February 12
We have #26 students
For birthdays, students can bring a birthday snack ONLY if items are store-bought. For example, Little Debbie snacks would make a great treat (please no cupcakes). IF your child prefers, you may bring in a non-food item (pencils, erasers, etc.) for each student, a game for inside recess, or donate a book for our classroom library if they wish. Please let me know your birthday plans ahead of time so I can set aside time to celebrate.
PLEASE NOTE - Unless you are inviting the WHOLE CLASS, you will need to send birthday party invitations through the mail. They cannot be passed out during school. This helps avoid any hurt feelings. IF you need any help with connecting with other parents please connect with me & I am happy to assist.
Desks
Since we have small, individual tables rather than traditional desks, there is no storage except for small bins. It will be extremely important to stay organized and leave unnecessary things at home. Please do not bring toys or trinkets to school.
Indoor Shoes:
Your child will need to have one pair of tennis shoes to be kept at school. These shoes will be worn only inside the building and for music & motion (physical education). Outdoor shoes can be worn to school and also used during recess time.
NEWSLETTERS:
You can count on weekly communication from me every Thursday. These newsletters will be emailed to you. Please let me know ASAP if you are not receiving the newsletters. IF you need a paper copy please let me know.
PICTURES:
Pictures will be posted on our PRIVATE Facebook page (Mrs. Harris 3rd Grade 2025-2026). Please look it up & request to join.
BOOK ORDERS:
Scholastic book order flyers will come home each month. This is a great opportunity to purchase quality books at a great price. This is optional.
WINTER GEAR:
Please have your child dressed for the weather! Label ALL belongings (as there will be multiples).
