6th Grade G/T Seminar

About G/T Seminar: G/T students are enrolled in G/T Seminar, a quarter-long elective class available only to sixth grade G/T students. This class is designed as a support for G/T students as they transition from elementary to middle school. The GT Seminar class is based on four core process areas considered fundamental to the development of a differentiated curriculum. Because of the open-ended, student-oriented nature of the GT Seminar class, students will develop and use process skills (how) to enhance and apply content skills (what) from the other disciplines. The four core process areas are listed below.

G/T CORE Processes:

  • Personal Growth allows students to explore strategies that enhance productivity, goal setting, excellence, and leadership.
  • Critical Thinking involves the process of posing questions, gathering data/information, and presenting claims for argumentation. Students will study the first critical thinkers, the classic philosophers, and build their understanding of the four areas of reasoning. .
  • Independent and Group Investigation allows students pursue purposeful topics of interest and currency, gathering and proposing claims and arguments, and preparing presentations to share with their classmates.
  • Creativity and innovation will be woven through each of the other three areas with activities involving “design thinking”, art and symbolism, empathy, and innovation.
