Interdisciplinary Teaching & PBL

Interdisciplinary Instruction & Problem Based Learning

NNbD teachers collaborate throughout the year to teach lessons and skills that coincide with each other’s contents to enhance the students’ opportunities to apply these skins in a real world format. Our goal is to provide deeper learning opportunities for students through the use of:

  • Collaboration (with peers and professionals)

  • Student voice and choice

  • Content specific seminars

  • Problem Based Learning activities

Teachers work in tandem when presenting curriculum to students, to revolve all teaching around central essential questions. Each subject examines that question through the lens of their content. This provides continuity from one subject to the next. In NNbD, we believe skill should not be isolated within individual subjects; we believe that authentic learning truly occurs when students build skills, therefore interdisciplinary teaching and learning is more applicable to real world understanding.

PBL: Problem Based Learning is a strategy NNbD uses to challenge students to connect the concepts they are learning in class to the world around them. As students work through these problems, there is flexibility in how students learn the material and in how they show their understanding.
