Course Overview:
This class has two goals. One is to learn and understand the ins and outs of our system of government. The other, more important goal, is to become a more perceptive and informed student/person. Government is more than knowing how the government functions (or sometimes how it doesn’t), the names of elected officials, etc. Rather, we will use this class to help us understand people and society, to provide identity, and understand good citizenship. In order to accomplish these goals, you will be asked to explore current events, form your own opinions, listen to others opinions, and know how to participate and be a contributing member of society. It is my hope that the skills you learn and use in this class can and will carry over to other classes and beyond.
Topics and units of study are Foundations of Democracy, Political Participation, Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch.
