Superkids

Dear Family, 

Second grade is an important school year in which children must cross the bridge from learning to read, a child’s most important task in kindergarten and first grade, to reading to learn, a child’s most important task in future years. To help us on this journey, our class will be using Superkids, a highly motivational core reading and language arts program. 

Each day, our class will have Word Work to review and expand on the essential phonics, spelling, and grammar skills children learned in first grade. Children will read stories about their friends—the Superkids—and also popular trade-book fiction in the Book Club for Super Kids. The Book Club includes longer chapter books in a variety of genres. Children will also explore real-word science, social studies, and arts topics in SUPER, an informational magazine created just for second graders.
