TCCC:

Trace, Copy, Cover, Close

TCCC is a strategy that helps all students, not just those with learning differences, learn to spell sight words. TCCC is a multi-sensory approach to learning sight words. All four steps follow the same procedure. The student says the word, then says each letter while writing them. Begin by writing the word on carpet or some rough surface with two fingers. Students look at the word as they say the word and letters as they two-finger write on the rough surface. Then move to paper by writing over (tracing) the word. The next line is then copied. The third line is written without any help because the previous lines are covered. The last time is with the eyes closed on the unlined part of the page. This is important because it builds a mental, image of the word. Remember that this is a multi-sensory approach so saying the word and letters while writing them is important.
