Intro: In this unit we will do a brief survey on the history of India. We will study the empires of the Mauryan, Guptas, Mughals, and the British. These empires had significant impacts on the historical narrative of India and have led to the contemporary successes and conflicts in modern day India.

Understand the nature of historical knowledge as a process of inquiry that examines and analyzes how history is viewed, constructed, and interpreted.
Analyze historical time periods and patterns of continuity and change, through multiple perspectives, within and among cultures and societies.

How did the major religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity impact India’s history?
How does the point of view of the British and Indians affect how we interpret the colonization of India?
How did Indians, and later the British, create continuity and change over the course of colonization?
How did colonization impact the culture of India?
How did imperialism impact the Indian population and how did they respond?
