Shelby Nelson

I am so happy and honored to be a part of Dr. Justina Ford Elementary! This will be my 8th year teaching in a profession I am truly passionate about.

My Family

I grew up in Centennial, Colorado, the oldest of three. I attended Franklin Elementary where I met my now husband, Bryan Nelson. We both graduated from Arapahoe High School in 2010 and got married in June 2013. We now have two little boys, James and Griffin, and are expecting a little girl in October. We also have two dogs, Arya, a Jack Russell Terrier and Nemo, a Pomeranian.

Outside of school we spend our weekends exploring our beautiful state and spending time with close friends and family. Our favorite day of the week is Friday which is Family Movie night.

My Education

In December of 2014, I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. I was lucky enough to complete my student teaching at my alma mater Franklin Elementary, in 5th grade with Ms. Carroll.

I was hired into my first teaching position as a 5th grade teacher in Douglas County Schools. After three years I returned home to Franklin Elementary where I have been teaching 4th grade for the past five years. My journey has now led me here, to Dr. Justina Ford Elementary, and I could not be happier to once again be a part of this incredible community! I had an incredible first year helping build and support this incredible Ford community! Year two LET'S GO!

My goal as a teacher is to empower students to find their passions and be learners of all things! I love connecting learning to the world around us and encouraging students to be explorers, risk takers, leaders, and positive community members.
