Welcome to LA 10 Honors!
The LA 10 Honors course uses IB MYP units to give students a solid foundation in reading and analyzing literary and non-literary works, writing critically and creatively, and thinking deeply in order to be successful in future Language Arts classes. Students will be prepared to continue on in honors and IB/AP classes.
This is an honors course, and the workload will reflect that. This doesn’t necessarily mean more work (except potentially in number of pages read), but it definitely implies a higher level of thinking. Be prepared to show critical thought and bring unique ideas to the table.
You will take out of this course what you put into it. This is not a course that rewards you for regurgitating information given to you by the instructor. You are instead asked to take the information from class – from the teacher, your fellow students, and the texts – and process that information into something new, valuable, insightful and personal. Don’t worry – you’ll get help doing this. But isn’t it more exciting to learn something new rather than just repeat back what you’ve been told?
Most class assignments will be available via Google Classroom.
