Growth Mindset

On our team we practice something called a Growth Mindset. There are many ways to define this, so we came up with some important points to describe what this means to us.

The first thing is to accept that everyone is going to make mistakes. That’s okay! We strive to help each other to learn from failure so that we can all keep growing together. When someone inevitably makes a mistake, we want to encourage a culture where they feel safe and encouraged to ask for help from others. We are a small team and we help coach each other.

Next, willingness to adapt to change. Going with the flow and having trust in the team to pull through is important to keep us together as a cohesive unit. The weather, our location, our opponents, and our teammates/coaches are always changing. Being able to remain connected despite that is very important in building a strong team.

Finally, self confidence. Having self confidence allows you to believe in yourself and get back up, even if you messed up. It also means that you are confident in your ability to improve, even if you’ve been stuck on the same throw, cut, or something else since the beginning of the season or longer. Someday you will wake up and will click, whether that takes a day, a few weeks, or even years. What matters is that you believe that you will improve, and keep trying.

We are a team that really values focusing on the growth of the players and their connections to each other. We are still competitive, and don’t get us wrong, winning feels great. However, we also realize that if we can all come out of the season better than we were before, we have already accomplished our most important goal.

Living Lion PRIDE!!

Purpose: Competitiveness can be a strength or a weakness. We can make it a good environment by having fun with the team and the other team also playing with spirit and a good purpose.

Respect: Being respectful, inclusive, and welcoming are important because we want to build a positive community and be aware of how our actions impact others and the environment. We can do that by choosing our words carefully and having an open mind.

Improvement: Our team strives to constantly improve ourselves by being increasingly resourceful on and off the field.

Determination: As a team we will stay motivated through challenges and hardship. This will be done through discipline and determination in practice and games.

Encouragement: Our team creates a space where we can learn and grow together as we accept mistakes and encourage one another.

By being kind and fun we can be uplifting.

Our story - LHS students have been playing ultimate at Littleton High School since the 1980s. Participation in our club enables kids to make friends, have fun, get fit, and learn a new sport.

We play during 2 seasons and have 3 teams. We put together a mixed team for the fall and segregate into girls' and open (the most competitive division which is mostly guys but open to all players) teams in the spring. Each team competes in 5-8 games and 1-2 weekend tournaments each season.

Ultimate operates without referees. Players call their own fouls and violations (it is a non-contact sport) and work out differences on the field. Kids have opportunities to work on conflict resolution as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. In ultimate, we fondly call this "Spirit of the Game".

Ultimate at Littleton is a competitive, interscholastic sport, but we are not part of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). Instead, we are governed by Altitude Youth Ultimate at the state level and USA Ultimate at the national level.

It was not until 2007 that LHS competed at a state tournament. Our club's accomplishments include two second place mixed team finishes at state in fall 2013 and 2014, as well as state championships for the girls in spring 2014 and for the mixed team in Division II in fall 2019. Our 2019 mixed team became Division II champs by winning every game at state! In fall 2015, our mixed team received the top spirit award from high school teams in Colorado.

Ultimate Frisbee Club welcomes new members at any time. We sometimes make cuts for tournament rosters, depending on numbers, but practice is open to all LHS students of all genders. Please consider coming out for ultimate! You may discover an activity that you can enjoy for many years to come.
