Team Snap is the app that we use to coordinate everything. All practices, races, social events, everything will be placed on the schedule in Team Snap. The events in Team Snap include the necessary details such as time, place, and any additional notes. Riders and coaches alike are expected to RSVP on Team Snap for every event in order to give an accurate headcount that's used for planning. Team Snap also allows us to communicate with our team through the team chat were people can coordinate events, ask questions, and share any information. Team Snap also allows access to photos taken at any team event when they are added to collaborative albums for team viewing.
Our practices follow a consistent schedule happening every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Throughout the season there will be other extra practices and social rides that happen various days throughout the week including the occasional weekend.
Our practices happen in the Front Range and Jeffco, and almost all practices are within a 30 minute drive of Littleton. We have a few specific places we consistently practice to give the riders a sense of familiarity. The most common places for our practices are Waterton Canyon, Bear Creek Lake Park, Green Mountain, Matthews Winters, Mount Falcon, and South Valley with occasional skills days at Cherry Creek Bike Park.
Our practices begin mid-July and go through mid-October. The official Colorado League races happen in September and Ocotber.
Although races are only one day, most families like to make a weekend of it. The day before a race the team likes to do a preride. The preride consists of the team doing one lap of the course with the coaches to get familiar with the course. The night before a race the team likes to do a team dinner somewhere in town that riders, parents, siblings, the whole family is invited to.
Race days begin bright and early in the morning when kids start arriving an hour before their start time. There are two tents that will be set up for our team that will serve as home base during race day. At the tent, there will be a board detailing out start times for each category, as well as food and drinks for riders and families alike. It is suggested that people planning on hanging out at the tent bring camp chairs as you will be there for a while. During race day all riders and families will take any opportunity they get to stand trail-side and cheer on their teammates. Most families head home soon after their racer's category is finished unless we have a rider who podiumed in which case people tend to stay for awards.
Parents, all we ask is that you're there for your rider! Providing transportation to and from practices and races we recognize is no easy task, but it is essential to your rider's involvement. If you're looking to be more involved, our coaches are mostly parent volunteers! There is a plethora of various volunteer opportunities for parents who want to be more involved.
Even if you don't ride, there are many involvement opportunities for parents. Organizing and helping to provide snacks for practices and races is tremendously helpful as your high school riders can eat! With race weekend comes many fun team activities and those need organizing, so if you're a parent looking for a job, this is it! Colorado MTB League requires a certain amount of volunteering from families so there are many parent volunteer opportunities at races that can help get you even closer to your racer! Most of all, supporting your rider. The simple act of being there for your rider and helping them get to and from practices and races is much appreciated.
Many riders need to carpool to practice at some point during the season, and their teammates are happy to help. As with everything else, Team Snap is used in this situation. If a rider needs to carpool they can send out a chat in Team Snap giving any crossroads near them and asking for a ride and whoever can offer transportation will reply.
