Induction Program

How can I have a balanced, successful career at EPIC Campus?

LPS Induction Requirements - 4 Required Components

Year 1

Welcome to LPS! Teachers with a provisional license need to complete an Induction Program to apply for a professional license from the Colorado Department of Education. The LPS Induction certificate needs to be submitted with the application. Educators who already hold a professional license will receive 2 salary advancement credits for completing the four required components*.

1. Induction Day: You will participate in the training sessions offered in this full-day training

which involves the introduction of district staff, learning about your new district, your school, and information about curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

2. Reflective Practice: Roland Barth asserts that “personal reflection on our experience is how

we learn from experience. Reflection contributes to the refinement of subsequent action and to the building of a repertoire of professional craft knowledge.” As a part of your induction, you will be asked to reflect on your practice on a minimum of a monthly basis through a journal and/or responses to prompts provided by your Instructional Coach. Coaches and new educators will decide on the method for sharing reflections collaboratively.

3. Meet Regularly with Your Instructional Coach: When there are large numbers of

new educators in a building, a group Induction meeting is often scheduled on a regular basis. In addition, new educators meet one-on-one with their Instructional Coach for differentiated, ongoing growth opportunities. Your coach will ask you to identify your professional learning needs so that he/she can tailor your coaching sessions to address them. Coaching sessions will occur at a minimum of 30 times over the course of the year and may include planning lessons, sharing reflections, obtaining resources and materials, analyzing student work, debriefing classroom visits, troubleshooting, and supporting you in your role as an educator.

4. Classroom Visits by Your Instructional Coach: Your Instructional Coach does not

observe you instructing for evaluative purposes and does not share information gained in classroom visits with the administrator assigned to evaluate you. Instead, visiting your classroom while instructing offers the opportunity for your coach to provide feedback to help you grow and to analyze the many decisions you face in meeting your students’ needs. Classroom visits are scheduled on a regular basis in order to maximize the benefits of this professional growth feature. We highly recommend three (3)  times a semester, but often find that monthly visits are appreciated and welcomed by many new educators. At the high school level, because mentors also visit your classroom, your Instructional Coach will observe you less frequently.

Years 2 and 3

Teachers in their second and third year will have the option to continue their reflective work with their coach for salary advancement credit.  Years 2 and 3 will focus on instructional practices within the classroom with the IC or building point person. Year 2 and 3 teachers may opt to:

The above experiences should be documented through artifacts and can be supported with add on activities such as book studies and lesson study groups.

*CDE does not recognize induction credits for license renewal for a teacher who already holds a Professional License and has previously completed induction.
